The Tioga Downs racetrack is located in Nichols in New York State and first opened for racing in 1976 when known as Tioga Park At that time it was a quarter horse track owned by James Nuckel, but closed within 3 years of opening, losing money each year. The track remained closed to racing for over a quarter of a century until in 2005 it was purchased by the Nevada God and Casino group in partnership with Jeffrey Gural. The 5 furlong oval dirt track, with 183 metre home straight, now has a glass fronted grandstand replacing the original open air stand and offers a programme of harness racing. The track held its inaugural meeting on 9th June 2006 and now hosts top class harness races, including the Empire Breeders Classic, the New York Sire Stakes and its principal race, the Cane Pace.
